Canary Wharf's Olympic-Sized Lido Opens June 19

The opening date has been revealed for Canary Wharf's massive new lido, an Olympic-sized pool that will open just in time for summer. Sea Lanes Canary Wharf will debut its 50-metre fresh water pool and saunas in east London from June.

Sea Lanes Canary Wharf: A New Outdoor Swimming Destination

If you have been waiting, goggles and swim cap in hand, for the opening date of east London's biggest new outdoor swim spot, the wait is finally almost over. First announced in September last year, Sea Lanes is a new fresh water swimming pool that will float on top of the Thames. The open air lido, measuring 50 metres in length and 1.3 metres deep, will feature six swimming lanes designed to cater to all ages and capabilities, from family dips to serious cold-water plunges.

Canary Wharf is already home to one outdoor swimming area, but unlike the existing Eden Dock, which is open for swimming in the summer and early autumn, Sea Lanes will be available to book year round. The pool is filled with naturally filtered freshwater, completely cut off from the river. Alongside the pool, the swimming complex will also feature two steamy, glass-fronted saunas that are powered entirely by renewable energy. For those feeling peckish after swimming, there will be food and drink served at the community clubhouse, which is set to host wellness events and even offer a wetsuit concierge service.

Opening Date and Pricing

The opening date for Sea Lanes Canary Wharf has just been announced, and the outdoor pool will welcome its first keen swimmers on June 19. Prices have not yet been revealed, but visitors will be able to choose from a membership or pay-per-swim option for more casual visits.

Additional Amenities

The swimming complex will offer a range of amenities designed to enhance the visitor experience. The two saunas, powered by renewable energy, provide a relaxing post-swim experience. The community clubhouse will serve food and drink, host wellness events, and provide a wetsuit concierge service. This combination of features makes Sea Lanes a unique destination for both serious swimmers and families looking for a day out.

Year-Round Accessibility

Unlike many outdoor swimming pools that operate only during warmer months, Sea Lanes will be open year-round. The naturally filtered freshwater pool is completely separate from the river, ensuring clean and safe swimming conditions regardless of the season. This makes it an attractive option for those who enjoy cold-water swimming or want to maintain their fitness routine throughout the year.
