Thames Water outage: six London postcodes affected

Thames Water has confirmed that multiple areas of London are experiencing water supply issues on the first night of Britain's third heatwave of the year. Two separate incidents have been identified in the capital, affecting both east and north west London.

East London postcodes hit by water outage

The east London postcodes impacted by the outage are E1, E2, E3, E9, and E16. In a statement, Thames Water said: "We're sorry if your tap water isn't running at the moment. We're aware of an issue in the area that's affecting customers in the East London area. Our specialist team is enroute to the area to investigate the cause of disruption and restore the flow of your water supply." The company added that it would provide another update by 08:00 and encouraged customers needing extra support to sign up for the free Priority Services Register.

North west London low water pressure

In north west London, the NW11 postcode (North Circular area) is experiencing low water pressure due to a burst water main. Thames Water stated: "Our teams are on site and working to isolate the leaking pipe. Once this has been carried out, we will begin work to carry out the repair. We will be on site through the night to ensure your supplies are back to normal as soon as possible." The company will monitor the situation and provide another update by 08:00 the following morning.

Heatwave and health alert

The outages come as Londoners endure night-time temperatures of 24°C, ahead of a forecast high of 33°C on Thursday, July 8. The UK Health Security Agency has issued an amber health alert for heat, in effect until 6am on Monday, July 13.

  • London: E1, E2, E3, E9, E16, NW11
  • Buckinghamshire: HP17, HP18, HP22, MK18
  • Oxfordshire: OX3, OX5, OX9, OX25, OX26, OX27, OX33

Thames Water apologised for the disruption and assured customers that teams are working to restore normal supplies as quickly as possible.
