Transport for London (TfL) has proposed a major restructure of North London bus services, specifically affecting routes 67 and 149. The plans include axing route 67 entirely and rerouting the 149, with the northern terminus shifting from Edmonton Green to Wood Green while retaining its southern terminus at London Bridge.
Frequency and routing changes
Under the proposals, the 149 would see weekday peak frequencies reduced from every seven minutes to every eight minutes. However, this represents a frequency increase on the section currently covered by route 67 between Wood Green and Stamford Hill, and a frequency decrease for the section between Stamford Hill and London Bridge. The 149 would be restructured to run between Wood Green and London Bridge via the current 67 routing between Wood Green and Stamford Hill.
This would introduce new direct links between Wood Green and London Bridge, providing new direct access between parts of Haringey (such as West Green Road and St. Ann’s Road) and areas in Hackney and the City of London (including Hoxton, Shoreditch, Bishopsgate, and Liverpool Street station).
Impact on passengers
TfL highlighted that service-users who currently travel on the 149 may lose direct links to some destinations. For instance, passengers traveling between Edmonton Green and London Bridge would need to change buses. Routes 243 (Wood Green to Waterloo) and 279 (Waltham Cross to Stamford Hill) would remain unchanged, retaining existing connections between Bruce Grove and Shoreditch (via route 243) and between Edmonton Green and Stamford Hill (via route 279).
The night service on route 149 would not change and would continue to run between Edmonton Green and London Bridge every night, but would be renumbered as route N149.
Public consultation
TfL has launched an eight-week public consultation, ending on September 20. The public can share feedback via the TfL website. According to a TfL spokesperson, the changes aim to improve efficiency and connectivity while managing resources. Passengers are encouraged to participate to voice their concerns.
