A person has died after being struck by a train on the tracks at Wanstead Underground station in east London, prompting a partial suspension of the Central line that has since been lifted.
Emergency services respond to fatal incident
British Transport Police (BTP) and London Ambulance Service paramedics were called to the station in Redbridge at approximately 11:45am on July 21 following reports of a casualty on the tracks. The injured person was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a BTP statement. The individual's age and gender have not been released.
The incident is not being treated as suspicious, BTP confirmed. A file will be prepared for the coroner ahead of an inquest.
Central line service disruption
Transport for London (TfL) suspended eastbound service on the Central line between Leytonstone and Newbury Park while emergency services dealt with the fatality. That section has since reopened, and good service is now running across the entire line.
A BTP spokesperson said: "Officers were called at around 11.45am today, 21 July, to reports of a casualty on the tracks at Wanstead Underground station. Officers responded with paramedics; sadly, a person was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is not being treated as suspicious, and a file will be prepared for the Coroner."
