A pedestrian is fighting for his life after a car crashed into a shop in Leytonstone yesterday afternoon. The incident occurred when a blue Peugeot SUV left the road and struck the man before ploughing into Sharif Diy & Kitchenware on High Road at around 2:50 PM on May 5.
Emergency Response
Paramedics treated the injured pedestrian at the scene before rushing him to hospital in critical condition. Footage from the scene shows firefighters removing debris from the destroyed shopfront. The car's wheels were on the pavement, and the bonnet was crumpled.
Arrest and Investigation
The Metropolitan Police have arrested the driver, a man in his 60s, on suspicion of causing serious injuries through careless driving. He remains in hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and will be transferred to custody once discharged. A cordon was erected around High Road, Crownfield Road, and Cann Hall Road but has since been removed.
This incident comes just two weeks after a 78-year-old woman was struck by a van on nearby Leyton High Road. She died in hospital a day later.
