A man has died and a woman was taken to hospital after a fire partially destroyed a three-story house on Bexley Road in Erith, East London, on Monday afternoon (July 20).
Firefighters called to the scene
Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters were dispatched to the blaze, which was reported to the London Fire Brigade at 5:27 pm. The incident was declared over by 6:41 pm. Crews from Bexley, Erith, and Plumstead fire stations attended the scene.
Casualties and damage
Half of the first floor of the three-story house was destroyed by the fire. One man was pronounced dead at the scene, and one woman was taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation.
A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: "Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters were called to a fire at a house on Bexley Road in Erith on Monday afternoon. Half of the first floor of a three storey house was destroyed by fire. Sadly one man died at the scene. One woman was taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation. The Brigade’s 999 Control officers were called at 1727 and the incident was over by 1841."
Investigation ongoing
The cause of the fire is not yet known and remains under investigation by the London Fire Brigade.
