Jet skier killed by rock arch collapse in Malta

A 26-year-old Chinese jet skier was crushed to death in Malta after a world-famous rock archway collapsed when an American tourist jumped off it into the sea. The incident occurred on Saturday at around 7pm on the island of Comino, according to the Times of Malta.

Victim Pinned to Seabed

The body of the man, who has not yet been named, was found pinned to the seabed after large rocks collapsed onto his jet ski as he rode underneath the formation known as the Kissing Elephants. A 27-year-old Chinese woman, who was also on the jet ski, suffered serious injuries and was hospitalised. Doctors at Gozo General Hospital told her that her injuries were not life-threatening.

American Tourist Rescued

The 32-year-old American man who jumped off the arch was rescued by a passing boat but did not require hospital treatment. The archway was a popular attraction for tourists who rented jet skis in nearby waters and could jump off it into the sea. Comino is also home to the Blue Lagoon, a famous swimming spot visited by thousands annually.
