Eight fire engines and around 60 firefighters were called to a blaze at a building housing shops and flats in Lower Clapton on Saturday evening. The fire broke out near the junction of Chatsworth Road and Glenarm Road on May 23. According to the London Fire Brigade (LFB), the fire is now under control, but crews will remain at the scene for several hours to dampen down hotspots. No injuries have been reported.

Emergency Response

The LFB received the first of 50 emergency calls about the fire at 9:34 PM. Control officers mobilized crews from Stoke Newington, Leyton, Leytonstone, Walthamstow, Tottenham, and Whitechapel fire stations. A 32-meter turntable ladder from Tottenham Fire Station was also deployed as an observation tower to provide the incident commander with better situational awareness.

Road Closures and Investigation

An LFB spokesperson confirmed that Chatsworth Road remains closed between Millfields Road and Homerton High Street. The cause of the fire is now under investigation. Firefighters will continue to monitor the scene to ensure safety.
