Police have launched a large-scale search operation, including a helicopter, for two young girls who disappeared from the Newbold area of Rugby. Angelica, 11, and Verity, 12, have been missing since August 8, with their last sighting reported around 4am on Sunday, August 9. Authorities believe the girls are together but have not yet located them.
Police deploy helicopter and ground teams
Detective Chief Inspector Ruby Nailor confirmed that the police helicopter was deployed to assist in the search, and residents may have noticed increased police activity in key areas. 'Rugby residents will have heard the police helicopter and seen a heavy police presence in key areas,' Nailor said. 'We've also been carrying out area searches, house-to-house enquiries and CCTV checks. Behind the scenes, detectives are also working on digital tracking.'
The girls have known links to both Rugby and Cornwall, which has expanded the search scope. Concern is growing as the search continues into its second day.
Public urged to call 999, not to self-organize searches
In a statement, Nailor appealed for public help but cautioned against independent search efforts. 'Lots of people are asking how they can help. We are asking that everyone takes a moment to look at the photos of Angelica and Verity and call 999 if you see them,' she said. 'At this stage, whilst we thank everyone for keeping a lookout, we would ask that people please do not attempt to organise searches themselves. We have officers on the ground searching, and they have special training. Where there are opportunities to help, we will advise through our social media channels.'
The search involves ground teams, house-to-house enquiries, and CCTV analysis, alongside digital tracking by detectives. The helicopter is aiding in covering a wide area.
