Two years after Nazire Koreli was last seen near her home in Welling, her daughter has spoken of the 'darkness clouding every happy moment' as the Metropolitan Police issue a fresh appeal for information. The 56-year-old former teacher was last seen on Axminster Crescent in September 2024, but was only reported missing five months later.
Extensive searches and a reward
Investigators have carried out extensive enquiries, including CCTV analysis and diver-led searches in water near Danson Park. A man in his 50s was arrested on suspicion of Nazire's murder on March 10, 2025, following an investigation by the Met's Specialist Crime Command. He was later released on bail, and enquiries remain ongoing.
Crimestoppers is offering a reward of up to £20,000 for information that could help the investigation. The Missing People Charity is also encouraging Nazire to contact their helpline on 116 000, saying: 'We just want to provide you with the support you need and help you to be safe.'
Family's plea
Nazire's daughter, who has an almost two-year-old daughter of her own, said: 'To know my mum is to know that she is creative, loves going to concerts, cooking for her family, teaching her students, and above all, loves me and my younger sister, her 'girls.' Mum raised me to be strong, determined and driven.'
She continued: 'I am missing not having my own mum while I have become a mum. I want to be able to pick up the phone and call her when I am having a hard day or need her advice. I'm missing our shared history. I'm missing someone to share the emotional toll with. I'm missing our inside jokes.'
Impact on the family
'Since she has been missing, I feel like half of me is living while the other half is frozen in time. There is darkness clouding every happy moment. A relentless reminder that a piece of me is gone,' she added. 'I broke into different pieces two years ago, giving my daughter the biggest parts of me, and losing the other parts to the grief and anguish of not having my mother here. There are so many unknowns, and these unknowns make it even more difficult every day. I need to know where my mum is. I need answers.'
Police appeal
Detectives are keen to hear from anyone who knew Nazire or may have seen her between September 2024 and February 2025. Detective Chief Inspector Wayne Jolley said: 'Two years on from Nazire's disappearance, her family continue to face the pain of not knowing what happened to her. Our investigation remains active, and we are committed to pursuing every line of enquiry available to us.'
Nazire is described as a woman of slim build, with light brown hair and olive skin. Anyone with knowledge of her whereabouts is asked to phone police on 101, CAD 5678 of 28 February 2025. Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers anonymously via 0800 555 111 or online.
