Footballer Thomas Partey Charged with Two Further Rape Counts in London Court
Professional footballer Thomas Partey has been charged with two new counts of rape, relating to an additional woman who came forward to police in August last year. The Villarreal player, who previously faced five rape charges and one sexual assault charge, will appear at Westminster Magistrates Court on March 13 in connection with these latest allegations issued by the Crown Prosecution Service.
Details of the Allegations and Legal Proceedings
The new charges date from 2020, while the initial charges involved alleged offences in 2021 and 2022 when Partey was an Arsenal player. In July, Partey was charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault, shortly after his Arsenal contract expired and he signed with Spanish club Villarreal. He pleaded not guilty to all those charges at Southwark Crown Court in September, where a trial date was set for November 2, 2026.
Partey's defence lawyer, Jenny Wiltshire, stated: "Thomas Partey continues to deny all charges against him. He has cooperated with the police throughout. Given there are ongoing legal proceedings, there will be no further comment." Partey was granted bail on the same conditions as before, which include no contact with the three alleged victims and mandatory reporting of any permanent address changes or international travel to police.
Partey's Football Career Amid Legal Issues
Despite the legal challenges, Thomas Partey has continued his professional football career. After leaving Arsenal in July, he joined Villarreal and has played 21 times for the club this season. Additionally, he remains active internationally, representing Ghana in World Cup qualifiers, with his most recent appearance against Comoros in October 2025. Ghana has successfully qualified for the upcoming World Cup, highlighting Partey's ongoing involvement in high-level sports.
The case has drawn significant attention in the football community, as Partey navigates both his sporting commitments and the serious legal allegations. The additional charges underscore the complexity of the investigation, with authorities continuing to pursue justice in this high-profile matter.
