This week is set to be one of the most important in gaming this year, with multiple showcases scheduled including Sony's State of Play, an Xbox event, and Summer Game Fest. While not confirmed, a Nintendo Direct is also expected this month. The rumour mill is in overdrive, and we have collated all the biggest rumours and predictions.
Confirmed Previews and Expected Announcements
Sony's State of Play will kick off with an extended look at the Wolverine game, while Xbox promises a deep dive on Gears Of War: E-Day and a new Fable trailer. Beyond these, potential announcements include a God Of War spin-off starring Kratos' wife Faye, which is rumoured to be Santa Monica Studio's next project. Insider Gaming's Tom Henderson is confident that a new God Of War will appear at the State of Play.
Naughty Dog and Other Sony Projects
Naughty Dog's Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet hasn't had an update since its 2024 reveal, but a new trailer could be due. A second Naughty Dog project, possibly an Uncharted sequel, is also rumoured. Insomniac's Venom spin-off remains in limbo, but Bloomberg's Jason Schreier suggests it is still in development. Revivals of older PlayStation IPs like Ape Escape and WipEout have been rumoured, as well as remasters for the inFamous games. Fairgames$, Sony's live-service heist game, may be renamed Break In and could appear at the State of Play.
Sega Revivals and Sonic
Sega's retro revival initiative includes Crazy Taxi and Jet Set Radio, both expected at Summer Game Fest. Virtua Fighter 6, now reportedly titled Virtua Fighter Crossroads, may also be shown. Sonic's 35th anniversary could bring a new mainline game or a Frontiers Definitive Edition for Switch 2. A remake of Sonic CD is also rumoured.
Other Major Rumours
Alien: Isolation 2 may be revealed after a teaser from Creative Assembly. Persona 4 Revival and Persona 6 are expected at the Xbox showcase, with the latter possibly celebrating the series' 30th anniversary. NetherRealm Studios is working on a DC fighting game, potentially not Injustice 3. Tomb Raider: Legacy Of Atlantis and Tomb Raider: Catalyst are likely to appear. Yooka-Laylee developer Playtonic is teasing a new project, possibly a Mario Kart clone. Rayman Legends: Retold is rumoured for State of Play, along with a Rayman Origins Enhanced Edition.
Ubisoft and Capcom Updates
Ubisoft may show Assassin's Creed Hexe or Far Cry 7, with the latter reportedly using generative AI. Capcom could reveal Resident Evil Requiem DLC and tease the next remake (Code: Veronica). Street Fighter 6 Year 4 DLC might include Tifa Lockhart from Final Fantasy 7. Onimusha: Way Of The Sword is targeting a September release. Devil May Cry 5 for Switch 2 has been rated in Taiwan.
FromSoftware and Bandai Namco
FromSoftware's The Duskbloods for Switch 2 is expected in late 2026, with a second unannounced project possibly being a Dark Souls 3 remaster. Ace Combat 8: Wings Of Theve may receive a release date. Tides Of Annihilation could get a new trailer or demo.
Hardware and Other Announcements
New consoles like PlayStation 6 and Xbox Project Helix are not expected to be mentioned. Nintendo may announce a Switch 2 Lite. Other rumours include Lego Skylines, Star Wars Zero Company, Star Wars Jedi 3, Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3, Kingdom Hearts 4, Baldur's Gate remakes, Minecraft Dungeons 2, Halo: Combat Evolved remake, The Elder Scrolls 6, Fallout 3 remaster, and GTA 6. Nintendo is expected to show Mario Kart World DLC, Pokémon Pokopia expansions, Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave, a new Super Smash Bros., and an Ocarina Of Time remake.
