Crystal Palace Face Losing Star Striker Mateta to Juventus After Guehi & Glasner Blows
Palace could lose Mateta to Juventus in January transfer

Crystal Palace are confronting the alarming prospect of losing a second key figure this month, with star striker Jean-Philippe Mateta now the subject of serious interest from Italian giants Juventus.

Juventus Make Their Move for Palace's Top Scorer

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Juventus held a meeting with Mateta's representatives on the evening of 16th January 2026. The discussions over personal terms were described as 'very positive', with the player reportedly very keen on a move to Serie A. Romano stated that the figures discussed for the 28-year-old Frenchman's salary are aligned, making the deal viable for Juventus from an economic standpoint.

The proposed structure of the transfer would be a loan with an obligation to buy. However, the final decision rests with Crystal Palace's hierarchy, including chairman Steve Parish. The club's valuation is believed to be around £45 million for a player whose contract runs until 2027.

A Turbulent Period for the Eagles

This potential exit compounds a miserable period for the South London club. Manager Oliver Glasner confirmed on Friday that he will leave at the end of the season after failing to agree on a new contract.

Furthermore, the club is braced for the departure of defensive linchpin Marc Guehi, who is the subject of talks with Manchester City. Losing Mateta, the team's top scorer with eight goals this season, in the same January window would represent a devastating triple blow.

Romano also noted that while Juventus have taken the initiative, several unnamed Premier League clubs are also alert to Mateta's potential availability.

Why Losing Mateta Would Be a Major Setback

Jean-Philippe Mateta is not just a goal threat; he is integral to Crystal Palace's style of play. His physical presence and intelligent movement are central to their attacking structure.

Earlier in February, Glasner himself praised the striker, calling him 'amazing in the box' and highlighting his crucial understanding of a number nine's role. At the peak of his powers, a move to a club like Juventus could also enhance Mateta's chances of making the France squad for the upcoming World Cup in the summer.

With the club in poor form and sliding down the table, the loss of their manager and two most important players would leave the Eagles in a state of profound crisis, facing a desperate battle to stabilise their season.
