Lille, who finished third in Ligue 1 and qualified for the Champions League, are eager to retain their star talent. However, the player's performance at the World Cup could influence the asking price amid intense competition.

International Allegiance

Fernandez-Pardo has represented Belgium at youth levels but was reportedly considering a switch to Spain due to family connections. However, he has clarified that he never intended to leave Belgium. 'I think the decision would have been the same if I had had the conversation earlier,' he said. 'You have to think long term. I never said I wanted to play for Spain.' He credited talks with Belgium sporting director Vincent Mannaert and manager Rudi Garcia for solidifying his commitment. 'My mentality is more Belgian than Spanish,' he added.
