Jorginho Calls Chappell Roan Security Incident a 'Misunderstanding'

Footballer Jorginho Retracts Claims Against Pop Star Chappell Roan

Flamengo footballer Jorginho has publicly clarified that last month's security incident involving his 11-year-old stepdaughter and pop star Chappell Roan was "a misunderstanding," retracting his previous accusations against the singer. The former Chelsea player initially claimed that Roan's security guard acted aggressively toward his family at a São Paulo hotel, but has since revised his position after receiving new information.

Initial Accusations and Emotional Response

Jorginho first spoke out about the incident in March, alleging that a security guard approached his wife and stepdaughter "in an extremely aggressive manner" while they spotted Chappell Roan at breakfast in their hotel. The footballer stated that his stepdaughter was "extremely shaken and cried a lot" following the encounter, prompting his strong public reaction.

"I made my initial statement in the heat of the moment, after hearing that my child and wife had been approached by an adult male security guard in an intimidating way," Jorginho explained in an Instagram statement. "I reacted as any father would. My priority is, and always will be, protecting my family, and that is exactly what I did."

New Information Changes Perspective

The situation evolved when Chappell Roan, who was in Brazil to perform at the Lollapalooza festival, denied any involvement with the security guard in question. The pop star clarified that "no one came up to me, no one bothered me, I was just sitting at breakfast at my hotel," and emphasized that the guard was not part of her personal security team.

Security guard Pascal Duvier subsequently confirmed Roan's account, stating: "I take full responsibility for the interactions on March 21st. I was at the hotel on behalf of another individual, and I was not part of the personal security team of Chappell Roan."

Resolution and Clarification

Jorginho acknowledged these developments in his updated statement, noting: "At the time, we acted on the information that was available to us. Since then, I have become aware of new information that has changed my understanding of parts of what happened."

The footballer revealed that Roan had reached out privately to his wife Catherine and that their teams had communicated directly. "Chappell Roan made a public statement, reached out privately to Catherine, and our teams also spoke directly," Jorginho wrote. "It became clear that she had no knowledge of what took place at breakfast and had not asked anyone to approach them. She was understanding and sympathetic to what had happened to our child."

Closing the Chapter

While Jorginho maintained that "we still do not know what prompted him to approach them, and do not believe an 11-year-old at breakfast could reasonably be seen as any kind of security threat," he accepted that the guard was not acting on Roan's behalf. "It was, ultimately, a misunderstanding in that respect, and I am glad to set the record straight," he stated.

The footballer concluded by expressing regret for the impact on all parties involved: "I regret the impact this situation has had on Chappell Roan, Catherine Ada, and our family. As far as I am concerned, this matter is closed."

The incident occurred while Chappell Roan was in Brazil for her Lollapalooza performance, two years after she reportedly drew one of the largest crowds in the festival's history. The episode highlights the complex dynamics between celebrities, their security teams, and public interactions in high-profile settings.
