Chelsea have reportedly initiated contact over a potential January move for Feyenoord winger Anis Hadj-Moussa, following the Algerian's eye-catching performances at the 2026 Africa Cup of Nations.
Chelsea Make Their Move for In-Demand Winger
According to reports from French outlet Foot Mercato, the Blues have held a preliminary meeting with the player's representative, agent Mohamed Dahmane. The club's hierarchy at Stamford Bridge are understood to be exploring a deal for the 23-year-old forward before the transfer deadline.
Hadj-Moussa, who will turn 24 next month, has emerged as a target for Chelsea's strategy of acquiring promising young talent. His current contract with the Eredivisie side runs until June 2030, but a sale this month is considered possible if a suitable offer is made.
AFCON Form Catches European Attention
The Paris-born attacker's profile rose significantly during Algeria's run to the quarter-finals of AFCON 2026, where they were eliminated by Nigeria. Despite limited minutes, his impressive cameo displays for the Desert Warriors garnered attention from several European clubs.
This international exposure complements a strong season at club level. For Feyenoord this campaign, Hadj-Moussa has contributed seven goals and three assists in 23 appearances, showcasing the form that has placed him on Chelsea's shortlist.
Competition and Managerial Dilemma
Chelsea are not alone in their interest, however. Ligue 1 side Marseille are also credited with a strong desire to sign him, and it is suggested the player would be open to a switch to the Stade Velodrome.
The situation presents a dilemma for Feyenoord boss Robin van Persie. Ahead of the 2025/26 season, the former Arsenal and Manchester United striker publicly stated his wish to keep Hadj-Moussa, labelling him one of his 'best players'. 'It is not the right time for Anis Hadj-Moussa to leave the club,' Van Persie told reporters, emphasising his commitment to retaining his key assets.
Their relationship was tested in October, though, following a Europa League match against Panathinaikos. Despite scoring a spectacular goal in a 3-1 win, Van Persie criticised the player's overall performance as 'very careless', highlighting the coach's challenge in managing a talent capable of 'magical moments out of nothing'.
Feyenoord are now aware of Chelsea's concrete interest, and a transfer in the coming weeks remains a distinct possibility should the London club formalise their interest with a compelling bid.
