Bayern Munich have seen off competition from Arsenal to win the race for Eintracht Frankfurt star Nathaniel Brown, according to reports in Germany.
Brown enjoyed his breakthrough for Eintracht Frankfurt across an eye-catching 2024/25 Bundesliga campaign and has since gone on to establish himself as one of the brightest young talents in the country.
The 22-year-old left-back carried his outstanding form into last season and he was duly rewarded with his first senior Germany call-up in October, before making the cut for Julian Nagelsmann's 26-man World Cup squad.
Naturally, Brown's performances for club and country have turned heads across the European game, with a host of top teams said to be monitoring the situation ahead of the summer transfer window.
Arsenal have reportedly been mulling over a move for Brown ahead of the summer transfer window, while the likes of AC Milan, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Manchester City have also been credited with a strong interest.
However, Bundesliga champions Bayern have ramped up their efforts to prise Brown away from Frankfurt in recent days – and it appears the Germany international will soon be plying his trade in Munich, alongside the likes of Michael Olise, Joshua Kimmich and Harry Kane.
According to Bild's Head of Football Christian Falk, Brown's proposed switch to the Allianz Arena is 'nearing completion' and the full-back is expected to join Bayern for a fee of just under €65million (£56m), including bonuses.
It's claimed Frankfurt chief Markus Krosche and Bayern director of sport have made a breakthrough in transfer negotiations and it's only a matter of time before the big-money transfer deal is announced.
But with Brown currently preparing for Germany's World Cup opener against Curacao in just three days time, it is likely Bayern will wait until the tournament is complete to officially welcome the youngster's arrival.
Last Saturday, Brown was given 60-minute run out as goals from Kai Havertz and Leroy Sane steered Germany to a 2-1 victory over the USA, this year's co-hosts, in an entertaining warm-up clash.
The left-back – who is also comfortable playing in midfield – has made a total of 72 appearances for Frankfurt's first-team having joined from German second-tier outfit FC Nurnberg in 2024.
Just this week, Bayern legend Thomas Muller talked up a possible move for Brown, claiming his fellow countryman had all the 'quality' and 'potential' to play for Vincent Kompany's side.
Asked if Brown would be a 'suitable' signing for his former club, ex-Bayern star Muller told Sport Bild: 'That always depends on the management and the contract situation – I'm not that familiar with that. As for the price, nobody knows what a monthly package costs. In terms of qualities and potential, definitely!'
Despite what he described as a 'brutal' level of competition at Bayern, Muller is confident Brown represents an 'interesting' proposition given what he has shown over his last two years with Eintracht Frankfurt.
'When you join Bayern as a player, you have brutal competition – but he is a player who is definitely interesting. I think everyone can see that,' he added.
Amid months of swirling gossip and speculation, Brown has been keen to keep his cards close to his chest regarding his future – instead preferring to do his talking on the pitch.
Asked whether he associates anything in particular with the sum €65.3million (£56.8m) in a recent interview with Sport Bild, Brown replied: 'No idea. It's definitely a lot of money.'
When informed that this was the record fee Chelsea paid for a left-back when they signed Marc Cucurella from Brighton in 2022, Brown responded: 'That's a really staggering sum. My focus is entirely on Eintracht Frankfurt and our goal of qualifying for Europe. And then I'd love to be at the World Cup. Then I'll see what happens in the summer. It's hard to plan in football, so I'm not thinking about it.'
Asked if he knew about interest from Real Madrid, Barcelona, Arsenal and Manchester City, Brown replied: 'Yes, I'm aware of it, but it doesn't affect me. I'm concentrating on the goals I can control. Nothing else interests me right now.'
Brown put pen to paper on a contract extension with Eintracht early last year, tying him to the club until June 2030. There is no release clause in his current deal at Deutsche Bank Park.
