Arsenal are reportedly monitoring the progress of Elche midfielder Rodri Mendoza ahead of the January transfer window, with the young Spaniard attracting significant Premier League interest.

Scouting Mission for Spanish Prospect

According to a report by TEAMtalk and highlighted by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the Gunners have already dispatched scouts to watch the 20-year-old on multiple occasions. "Arsenal had their scouts already at two games between October and November to follow Mendoza," Romano stated on his YouTube channel. "Arsenal are keeping a close eye on the player."

The North London club, however, faces competition for the player's signature. Both London rivals Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur are also credited with an interest in Mendoza, whose contract contains a release clause valued at £17.6 million (€20m).

Who is Arsenal Target Rodri Mendoza?

Rodri Mendoza is a product of Elche's academy, having joined the club in 2019. The midfielder made his senior debut in November 2022 and has since developed into one of the club's most prized assets.

At just 20 years old, he is viewed as a player with immense potential who could offer Mikel Arteta's squad a different option and valuable long-term depth in midfield. Romano suggested the fee could represent a bargain, noting Arsenal's recent success in identifying value, such as with the signing of defender Cristhian Mosquera.

"Spanish, quality player, 20 years old, €20m could be a bargain," Romano added. "At the moment Arsenal are happy with the midfielders they have, so it’s not something imminent, but they are monitoring the player."

Gunners Lead the Pack On and Off the Pitch

This transfer speculation comes as Arsenal continue to set the pace in the Premier League title race. As of 1st December 2025, Mikel Arteta's side sits five points clear of second-placed Manchester City and six ahead of Chelsea in third.

The club reinforced their squad significantly last summer with signings including Viktor Gyokeres and Martin Zubimendi. The potential move for Mendoza indicates a strategy of continued evolution, targeting high-potential talents to maintain their competitive edge both domestically and in Europe.

While a January move is not considered urgent, Arsenal's proactive scouting suggests they are keen to stay ahead of the competition for one of Spain's emerging talents.
