Dwight Yorke has revealed he advised Manchester United to sign two current superstars and hire Unai Emery before the appointment of Ruben Amorim. The legendary striker told BoyleSports that he urged the club to sign Michael Olise before his move to Bayern Munich and Eberechi Eze before his £68m transfer to Arsenal.
Yorke's Managerial Advice Ignored
Yorke was keen for Emery to take over at Old Trafford when United turned to Portuguese boss Amorim. Amorim arrived in the Premier League with a strong reputation but his 14-month tenure was hugely underwhelming and resulted in a long overdue sacking. Manchester United were once again linked with Aston Villa boss Emery following Amorim's departure but Michael Carrick earned a permanent contract after impressing in his role as interim manager.
'I told them to go and get Unai Emery, the best manager in the country, before they went and appointed Ruben Amorim as manager,' Yorke said.
Transfer Recommendations for Eze and Olise
Yorke's advice to his former club was not limited to managerial recommendations. He also endorsed transfer moves for Eberechi Eze and Michael Olise. England star Eze helped Arsenal win the Premier League and reach the Champions League final last season after completing a £68m move from Crystal Palace. Olise, meanwhile, has developed into one of the best attacking players in world football since also leaving Palace for Bayern Munich.
'I've told Manchester United in the past to go and sign players. I told them to sign Michael Olise before he went to Bayern Munich. I told them to sign Eberechi Eze. This was years before anyone said anything about him moving to Arsenal. I said go and spend £100m to sign these two players for United,' Yorke explained.
'They looked at me and said why is he saying that? Why would we spend that money on them? They raised their eyebrows against me. Now look at them. There are other voices who have a platform and no one listened to me on Eze or Olise.'
Latest Plea: Sign Ayyoub Bouaddi
Yorke has urged Manchester United not to ignore his latest transfer plea to sign Lille midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi. Bouaddi, 18, impressed at the World Cup for quarter-finalists Morocco, attracting interest from Arsenal and Manchester City as well as United.
'I'm telling them, go and get Bouaddi now. That's the young midfielder you need to build this team around. He is the future. From what I see of him playing for Morocco, I think there is something special about him, so if you want to talk about midfield players you can go and spend £50m on Andrey Santos or whatever, but I urge United to go for Bouaddi because the guy looks like he has everything,' Yorke added.
'He's very comfortable on the ball, he plays in the right position, he's even got some nice creativity too. He's still learning the job and he's young but will only get better with the right coaching and exposure, especially playing for a master like Carrick.'
Manchester United's Midfield Plans
Manchester United have already signed two midfielders this summer – Santos from Chelsea and Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa. But Carrick wants a third midfielder to arrive through the doors at Old Trafford following Casemiro's departure and Manuel Ugarte's serious injury.
