Viral footage has captured the moment a pregnant woman was thrown to the floor by a police officer and then dragged along the ground at an asylum centre in the Netherlands.
Video shows violent confrontation
The video records a tense exchange between several police officers and a heavily pregnant woman accompanied by a man. At the start of the clip, officers stand gathered in a corridor while the woman and man stand a short distance away. An officer approaches and speaks to her. Seconds later, another officer carrying a baton and leading a German Shepherd dog walks directly towards the woman, grabs her by the arm, pulls her forward, and forcefully throws her to the floor in the middle of the corridor.
The man, believed to be the woman's husband, rushes forward and attempts to punch the officer with the dog. The officer strikes back, and a melee ensues as several officers move in. A later clip appears to show the woman looking dazed as two officers drag her along the floor further down the corridor while onlookers watch. Simultaneously, three other officers restrain the man on the ground.
Incident at asylum centre
The incident is understood to have taken place at a centre for asylum seekers in Zeist, near Amsterdam. Online reports suggest officers were responding to reports of vandalism and threats involving a knife. During their enquiries, they came into contact with a 30-year-old Palestinian man facing deportation proceedings and subject to an entry ban. He is reportedly the man in the video who tried to punch the officer, and the pregnant woman is his wife.
The woman told local media that the altercation occurred after she spoke to police at the detention centre where her husband was being held. He was later arrested, according to reports.
This incident has sparked widespread outrage and calls for accountability. The video continues to circulate on social media, drawing attention to police tactics and the treatment of asylum seekers in the Netherlands.
