Underwater search teams from the Metropolitan Police conducted a search of the River Lea near Hackney Marshes on Sunday, 26 July, following reports that a body had been seen in the water. The search concluded with no body discovered.
Police respond to reports
Police were called at approximately 1pm after a member of the public reported seeing a body in the river. Officers, including specialist divers from the Met's Marine Unit, attended the scene alongside units from the London Ambulance Service and the London Fire Brigade. Nearby roads were cordoned off during the operation.
Underwater search conducted
The specialist divers conducted an underwater search of the area, but no body was found. The scene was subsequently closed. A Met Police spokesperson said: "Police were called at around 13:00hrs on Sunday, 26 July to a report that a body had been seen in the River Lea, near Hackney Marshes. Officers, including specialist divers from the Met’s Marine Unit, attended alongside units from the London Ambulance Service and the London Fire Brigade. An underwater search was conducted and no body was discovered. The scene was closed."
