Man Confesses to Girlfriend's Murder After Motorway Encounter

A chilling murder trial has unfolded at Portsmouth Crown Court, where a man allegedly confessed to killing his girlfriend after being found walking along a motorway. Norbert Maiksner, 48, is on trial for the murder of 45-year-old Frances Obiefuleh, whose body was discovered in her home with blue tape wrapped around her face.

Motorway Confession and Discovery of the Victim

On April 17, 2025, Maiksner was reportedly found walking along a slip road of the M40 near High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire. When confronted by a traffic officer, he stated, 'You will need to call the police – I've killed my girlfriend.' This led to a search of Obiefuleh's home, where she was found dead on the floor. Doorbell camera footage showed someone entering her home from Maiksner's car that night, and a neighbor reported hearing 'four consecutive bangs' about 15 minutes later.

Details of the Crime and Trial Proceedings

A post-mortem examination concluded that Obiefuleh died from smothering, with elements of neck or chest compression. The court heard that Maiksner had ended his relationship with her the day before her body was found. After his arrest, scratches and abrasions were found on his body, which the prosecution suggested were inflicted by the victim during the attack. Maiksner has pleaded not guilty but has not attended his ongoing trial, with the judge ruling it can proceed in his absence.

Broader Context and Campaign Against Violence

This case highlights the ongoing issue of violence against women. In November 2024, Metro launched the This Is Not Right campaign, in partnership with Women's Aid, to address this national emergency. The trial is expected to last two to three weeks, with Maiksner having the option to appear in court later. The judge emphasized that his absence is not evidence of guilt.
