Burnham announces No 10 North in Manchester
Andy Burnham has confirmed plans to set up a 'No 10 North' in Manchester, describing it as the biggest change in a generation to how the country is run. In a speech at the People's History Museum in Manchester, the mayor said the move would make power 'flow around the country'.
Consistent with 2024 manifesto
Burnham stated that the initiative is consistent with the 2024 manifesto and aims to create a more streamlined state with a clearer purpose to power up all parts of the UK. He emphasized a 'laser-like focus on growth and regeneration, good growth'.
Extended operation in Manchester
The change will be driven through the prime minister's office via an extended operation based in Manchester. However, Burnham stressed that it will only be based there, with the job of No 10 North being to make power flow into the Midlands, South West, East of England, and even London.
