A 19-year-old man has been convicted of the sudden and unprovoked murder of a 55-year-old stranger in north London. Rasheed Abdul Rahman was found guilty of killing Mark Carroll in St Martin's Gardens, Camden, on April 10, 2024. Police responding to the scene discovered Mr. Carroll with a single stab wound, from which he later died. The verdict was delivered at Wood Green Court on May 27.
Unprovoked Attack
The court heard that Mr. Rahman, who did not know his victim, approached Mr. Carroll in the gardens and stabbed him without warning. After the attack, Rahman fled but was quickly apprehended by officers. In addition to murder, he was convicted of possessing a bladed article, threatening another with an offensive weapon, and robbery.
Family Reaction
Mr. Carroll's daughters, Ayisha and Danielle, expressed relief at the verdict. "We are relieved that justice has been delivered for our family. While nothing can ever bring our dad back, we are grateful to finally have some sense of closure after losing him in such a horrific way," they said.
Investigation and Justice
Detective Chief Inspector Phil Clarke, who led the investigation, stated: "Our thoughts remain with Mark's family and friends. Mark, who was local to Camden, lost his life in tragic circumstances – though no outcome will ever be enough, we hope today's conviction offers his loved ones some closure." He also thanked the public and witnesses who supported the investigation, emphasizing that their evidence was vital in securing the guilty verdict.
