The Metropolitan Police has issued a strict warning that there will be "no tolerance of hate crime" during this weekend's major Pride celebrations across London. Over a million people are anticipated to travel into the city centre for the celebrations, with a heavy police presence planned for Saturday.
Policing operation and safety measures
Deputy Assistant Commissioner Jon Savell, overseeing the policing operation for Pride in London, said the objective is to ensure all attendees can "safely and securely" participate in the events, featuring a parade and multiple entertainment stages. He emphasised that the police will provide a "visible, proportionate and effective policing presence" ready to respond swiftly to any incidents.
Mr Savell commented: "Our priority is to provide a visible, proportionate and effective policing presence that is ready to respond swiftly to any incidents. Pride is hugely significant for LGBT+ communities and those attending should be able to do so free from discrimination, abuse or fear."
Parade details and participation
Event organisers have announced that more than 35,000 participants from over 600 diverse groups will take part in a procession travelling from Hyde Park Corner to Whitehall Place via Piccadilly. The march includes a wide spectrum, from grassroots community organisations and LGBTQIA+ sports clubs to non-profits, faith groups and employee networks.
Entertainment and travel advice
Entertainment stages will be positioned at Trafalgar Square, Leicester Square, Golden Square, Soho Square, Dean Street and Victoria Embankment Gardens. Pubs and bars throughout Westminster will operate as normal and are anticipated to experience exceptionally high footfall.
Mr Savell added: "There will be no tolerance of hate crime – we urge anyone who is a victim of it to speak to an officer immediately so we can take action." He encouraged those planning to visit the capital during the busy weekend to check their travel arrangements beforehand and to "look out for one another and ask for help if you need it."
