Victoria Embankment in central London was closed for nine hours after a man in his 20s died from a fall early Thursday morning. Emergency services responded to reports of the incident at around 2am on June 25.
Incident details
Police were called by the London Ambulance Service at 2:06am to Victoria Embankment following reports of a man believed to have fallen from a height. Despite paramedics' efforts, the man was pronounced dead at the scene. A Met Police spokesperson said: “Despite the best efforts of paramedics, the man in his 20s died at the scene. Officers are working to identify his next-of-kin. Enquiries remain ongoing and a scene is in place.”
Emergency response
The London Ambulance Service dispatched an ambulance crew, paramedics in fast response cars, an advanced paramedic, and an incident response officer. A trauma team from London’s Air Ambulance also attended. A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called at 2:03am today to reports of an injured person in Victoria Embankment. Despite the efforts to save his life, a man sadly died at the scene.”
Road closures and impact
Victoria Embankment was closed in both directions from A400 Northumberland Avenue (Embankment Station) to Temple Place, according to traffic website Inrix. The closure led to congestion on Blackfriars Underpass and both ways on the Strand to and from Trafalgar Square. Police guarded cordons with a yellow evidence tent at the scene. The road remained closed for over nine hours as investigations continued.
