Five people, including a 14-year-old, are in hospital with serious injuries after a stolen car crashed during a police chase in Goodmayes, east London. The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday, May 16, when patrolling officers attempted to stop a vehicle that failed to pull over.
Details of the Incident
The pursuit began at around 12:30 a.m. after the suspect car refused to stop. Minutes later, the driver, a woman in her 20s, along with four passengers, collided with a second vehicle at the junction of High Road and Barley Lane. The crash caused significant damage and left multiple people injured.
Injuries and Medical Response
Paramedics from the London Ambulance Service (LAS) treated nine individuals at the scene. Six people were taken to hospital for further assessment, including the driver of the second car, two of their passengers, and a moped driver. The injured range in age from 14 to 46, with all sustaining serious injuries. The Metropolitan Police confirmed that the driver of the suspect car and her four passengers remain hospitalized under arrest.
Arrests Made
The driver of the stolen vehicle has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, theft, and failing to stop. Her four passengers—a woman in her 40s, a teenage girl, and two men in their 20s—were arrested on suspicion of being in a stolen vehicle. All remain in police custody while receiving medical treatment.
Road Closures and Diversions
High Road is closed in both directions between Goodmayes Road and Eccleston Crescent. Two bus routes have been diverted, and drivers are advised to avoid the area. Emergency services, including advanced paramedics and London's Air Ambulance, were dispatched to the scene.
