Ghislaine Maxwell: Prison staff sacked for leaking emails
Prison staff fired over Ghislaine Maxwell email leak

Prison employees at the facility housing Ghislaine Maxwell have been dismissed after improperly accessing and leaking the disgraced socialite's private correspondence, her lawyer has confirmed.

Unauthorised Access Leads to Dismissals

According to attorney Leah Saffian, staff at Federal Prison Camp Bryan in Texas were terminated for improper, unauthorised access to an email system designed for inmate communication with the outside world. The breach involved Maxwell's privileged client-attorney email correspondence being allegedly shared.

This development follows revelations about Maxwell's conditions at the minimum-security prison, where she was transferred in August 2024. The move occurred just one week after meetings between deputy attorney general Todd Blanche and Maxwell's lawyer David Oscar Markus.

Life Inside the Texas Prison Camp

Within days of arriving at the all-female institution in August, the 63-year-old began enthusiastically describing her new surroundings to family and friends via email.

Federal Prison Camp Bryan houses inmates convicted of non-violent or white-collar crimes in dormitory-style accommodation. Maxwell's messages, obtained by the House Judiciary Committee and seen by Sky's US partner NBC News, revealed numerous unusual privileges including:

  • Meals delivered directly to her dormitory room
  • Late-night workout sessions
  • Permission to shower when other inmates were in bed

The food is legions better, the place is clean, the staff responsive and polite, Maxwell wrote in one communication.

In another message to a relative, she expressed: I feel like I have dropped through Alice in Wonderland's looking glass. I am much, much happier here and more importantly safe.

Appeal Plans and Ongoing Legal Battle

Despite a whistleblower telling House Democrats that Maxwell is planning to appeal to US President Donald Trump to commute her 20-year prison sentence, her lawyer Ms Saffian has denied these claims. She stated unequivocally that Maxwell has not requested a commutation or made a pardon application to the second Trump administration.

Maxwell was convicted on five sex trafficking-related counts in 2021 for recruiting young girls for her financier ex-boyfriend Jeffrey Epstein during the 1990s and early 2000s. She received her 20-year sentence in 2022.

Her appeal against the conviction was rejected by the Supreme Court in early October 2024, solidifying her status as inmate number 02879-509 at the Texas facility.

Sky News has contacted Federal Prison Camp Bryan for comment regarding the staff dismissals and the conditions described in Maxwell's leaked correspondence.
