The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) has denied rumours that a Satanic rapist has been released from prison. Social media users on X, formerly known as Twitter, as well as Facebook and Instagram, had claimed that Pedro Evangelou had been spotted after being released from prison. The MoJ confirmed to MyLondon that these rumours are untrue, and Evangelou is still serving his nine-year jail term for raping a teenager, having been locked up in 2017.
Details of the attack and conviction
Evangelou, of Pembroke Street, in Islington, North London, carried out the “prolonged and harrowing sexual assault” after meeting his victim at the Slimelight nightclub in Angel. He then drove her back to his home on his Harley Davidson and blocked the door with a plank of wood to prevent her from escaping. The victim, aged 19, was rescued after mouthing ‘help’ and ‘phone the police’ from a window to a member of the public, who phoned 999. She then broke free and ran into the street, ‘visibly shaking and upset’. Evangelou was arrested at the scene and claimed the sex was consensual.
Evangelou, who described himself as a Luciferian and had a room in his flat devoted to Satan, was found guilty following a trial at Snaresbrook Crown Court. He was sentenced to nine years in jail for rape and one year for sexual assault, which will run concurrently.
Police comments and appeal
Detective Constable Stuart Douglas said: “The victim in this case was subjected to a prolonged and harrowing sexual assault. Her distress was obvious to those members of the public who saw her. I am grateful for the assistance of those members of the public and, most importantly, the victim.”
Detective Inspector Neil Rawlinson added: “I would encourage anyone who has been assaulted by Evangelou or anyone else to contact the police in the knowledge that they will be listened to and not judged.”
The MoJ’s confirmation that Evangelou remains in prison brings clarity to the situation, and the police continue to encourage any other potential victims to come forward.
