Labour has accused Robert Jenrick of attempting to downplay the seriousness of the latest revelations concerning George Cottrell, a convicted fraudster linked to donations for Reform. A Labour spokesperson said it was “no surprise” that Jenrick sought to minimise the allegations during his press conference this morning.
Labour’s Statement on Reform’s Finances
In a statement, a Labour spokesperson said: “Reform are up to their neck in sleaze and dodgy money. It’s no surprise Robert Jenrick would try to minimise the seriousness of these allegations given one of his donations is also being investigated by the police.” The spokesperson added that if the claims about Cottrell are true, Reform may have accepted money from a convicted fraudster who was the ultimate source of the donations, despite him never demonstrating he was legally allowed to donate to a political party at the time.
Call for Transparency
Labour urged Reform to “wake up and start treating these allegations with the seriousness they deserve and come clean about who is really bankrolling the party.” The party’s comments come amid growing scrutiny over Reform’s funding sources and the involvement of individuals with criminal backgrounds.
