Epstein's Hidden Role: Coaching Bannon in 2018 Pro-Trump Media Campaign
Epstein Advised Bannon on Pro-Trump Media Strategy

Newly disclosed text messages have exposed a clandestine advisory relationship between the convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and former Trump strategist Steve Bannon during a critical pro-Trump media campaign in August 2018.

The six-day exchange, released by the US House oversight committee, reveals Epstein providing detailed coaching on Bannon's television appearances and political talking points, offering a rare glimpse into the behind-the-scenes machinations of Trump loyalists.

Behind the Scenes Media Coaching

The messages began on 17 August 2018 with Epstein offering immediate feedback on Bannon's live MSNBC interview with Ari Melber. Epstein appeared to be watching the broadcast live, telling Bannon: "I took off early so I could land in time to watch. all good?"

Their exchange quickly turned to banter about Bannon's appearance, with Epstein writing: "You looked so clean cut next to him i thought i turned on the figure skating channel by accident." Bannon responded with "My 'come hither' look," prompting Epstein's disturbing reply: "Better than the usual 'come hitler' look."

Epstein provided specific staging advice, writing: "Your eye is the best , so important for you to watch the play reel. Over the shoulder for him , 3/4 for you. ?? lighting. . hot for you . /. chairs . ? too restrictive for you."

Crafting Political Messaging

The messages show Epstein taking an active role in developing talking points, particularly regarding economic policy and defending Trump's tax cuts. Epstein crafted detailed responses to criticism, writing: "The 83 percent to rich is misleading by miles . Cash back. Pension funds up."

He added sophisticated economic analysis: "Corporations are not people. Giving corp breaks , is perceived as giving it to someone else. wage inflation cant be the first focus, the additional money in the system. First goes to hiring new people, only afterwards can wages rise."

The conversations also touched on other MAGA world figures, with Epstein mentioning that Peter Thiel was coming to town and noting that Anthony Scaramucci had reached out asking how to "re engage" with Bannon.

Reacting to Breaking Scandals

The text exchange captures their immediate reactions to major developments in the Michael Cohen case. When news broke on 23 August 2018 that National Enquirer publisher David Pecker had received immunity, both recognized the significance immediately.

Epstein texted: "Pecker immunity one more drop." Bannon responded: "Huge event huge," followed by the ominous prediction: "More women payoffs coming."

The messages also reveal Epstein complaining about people turning on him, specifically mentioning Steven Hoffenberg, who was imprisoned in 1998 for his role in a $500m Ponzi scheme. Epstein described him as "totally nuts" and "one more pain."

Secret Meetings and Surveillance Concerns

The correspondence shows clear attempts to conceal their collaboration from public scrutiny. On 23 August, Epstein wrote: "Btw Im in New York tonite thru sat , if you want to visit under the cover of darkness or breakfast tomorrow if you like."

Bannon expressed concern about surveillance, responding: "Do u have access that's not the front door-- they have 24/7 surveillance on u." Epstein offered alternative arrangements, suggesting they meet at his apartment on East 66th Street in Manhattan and noting: "There is also a rear entrance on 67 , if you prefer."

Bannon ultimately agreed to meet after 4:30 PM, apparently satisfied with the security arrangements Epstein proposed.

The released material represents only a portion of their communication during this period, and it remains unknown whether additional exchanges exist. Bannon did not respond to multiple requests for comment from the Guardian regarding these revelations.
