Taylor Swift's Plus-One Policy: A Wedding Etiquette Lesson
Taylor Swift's Plus-One Policy: Etiquette Lesson

In love, actually … Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce. The couple has been engaged since last summer, and now they have a date: 3 July. But not everyone is thrilled about the wedding plans. One anonymous invitee has been complaining to the Mail about the plus-one policy.

The Plus-One Problem

Deciding who can bring a guest to a wedding is always a sensitive issue. Taylor Swift may have known what she was doing when she banned a singleton from bringing a friend. The invitee, a single woman, said: "What am I supposed to do? Go alone? That is so awkward. I don't think I am going to attend because I don't want to go by myself and I am not sure I will know too many people there. I mean, sorry, I am not friends with Gigi and Bella Hadid!"

Wedding Etiquette Guidance

Emily Post's Wedding Etiquette, updated by Lizzie Post, advises that spouses, fiances, and live-in partners should be invited. "Your guest is part of a package deal," the guide states. British Vogue suggests having clear criteria: "If you allow one single guest … to invite a more casual partner or friend, then you should allow all single guests to do so."

Essentially, Tay-Tay has done nothing wrong. And as everyone knows, a wedding is the best place for singles to find a partner.

Do say: "If Tay-Tay's doing it at hers, I'm doing it at mine."

Don't say: "Wedding Crashers, now there's an idea."
