The Metropolitan Police have dealt with a series of violent incidents across London this week, including the fatal shooting of a bus driver in Clapham, the death of a pensioner following a burglary in Finsbury Park, and a stabbing in Streatham. Despite the bloodshed, official figures show violent crime in the capital is actually falling.
Clapham Bus Driver Shooting
Auguste-Marie Bile-aka Amoa, a 25-year-old bus driver, died after being shot at around 10pm on Monday, August 10, on Willington Road, Clapham. A 22-year-old man took himself to hospital shortly after with a gunshot injury and was arrested on Tuesday, August 11, on suspicion of murder. He remains in hospital under police guard.
Detective Chief Inspector Claire Guiver, leading the investigation, said: “Our thoughts remain with Bile-aka’s family as they come to terms with this tragic incident. We continue to appeal for anyone with information to come forward.” She urged witnesses or anyone with CCTV, dashcam, or doorbell footage to contact police.
Streatham Stabbing and Other Attacks
On Wednesday, August 12, at 3.57pm, police were called to a stabbing on Wavertree Road, Streatham. A 19-year-old man was treated for stab wounds and taken to hospital; his injuries are not life-threatening or life-changing. No arrests have been made, and the attacker remains at large.
In a separate incident on Wednesday evening, two men were attacked in Marble Arch, leaving a 21-year-old with head injuries in hospital. No arrests have been made. On Wednesday at 5.56pm, a 46-year-old man was assaulted on Harrow Road, Maida Vale, and taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. No arrests have been made.
Finsbury Park Burglary Death
An elderly woman, 75, died in hospital on Tuesday, August 11, following a botched burglary at her home on Evershot Road, Finsbury Park, the previous day. An 81-year-old man was also injured and taken to hospital. A manhunt is underway, and a crime scene remains in place.
Detective Chief Inspector Ben Massink said: “We’re at an early stage of this investigation and awaiting a post-mortem examination to determine how the woman died, with my team working hard to pursue all lines of enquiry.” He appealed for anyone with information or doorbell footage to come forward.
Moorgate Stabbing and Other Incidents
A man was stabbed in South Place, Moorgate, on Thursday evening, August 13, and was taken to hospital but has since been discharged. Detective Inspector Ben Hurley of City of London Police said: “Enquiries are ongoing.” No arrests have been made.
Other incidents include a large police presence on Coldharbour Lane, Brixton, near Southwyck House, and a forensic van at Alexandra Park, but the reasons for these are unknown. MyLondon has approached the Met and London Ambulance Service for comment.
Despite this violent week, neighbourhood crime in London—including theft, robbery, and burglary—fell by 14% in the 12 months to June. Homicides involving a knife or sharp instrument in England and Wales have fallen to their lowest level in 35 years, making London safer than all major US cities and Paris.
