A 13-year-old boy has died and a woman was taken to hospital following a two-vehicle collision on the M4 motorway in Wiltshire. Emergency crews, including the air ambulance service, responded to reports of a crash between junctions 16 and 17 on Saturday night.
Details of the collision
It is understood that a Toyota vehicle collided with a Renault van. The boy, 13, was pronounced dead at the scene while the woman was taken to hospital. Both were passengers in the Toyota, police have said. Neither of the vehicles’ drivers were seriously injured in the collision.
Road closures and emergency response
The motorway’s westbound carriageway was closed following the crash while the eastbound was held for two hours to allow air ambulances to land. Wiltshire Police is now appealing for anyone with any information or dash-cam footage of the incident to come forward.
In a statement, the force said: ‘We need to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the collision or who may have dashcam footage. Please contact the Serious Collision Investigation team on 01225 694597 quoting log number 398 of yesterday’s date (18/07).’
