A murder investigation has been launched after a teenage boy was stabbed to death at a house party in Hackney on Bank Holiday Monday. Metropolitan Police officers were called just after 7pm on May 25 to reports of a large gathering in Towpath Walk, Homerton. They found the victim with stab wounds in Poplar Close, where he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police Investigate Possible Shooting
Officers are also investigating reports of a possible firearms discharge. Social media footage appears to show a person holding a firearm. Detective Chief Inspector Ben Massink of the Met's Specialist Crime command stated: 'Urgent enquiries continue to establish exactly what happened. We know there were a significant number of people in the area, and some recorded the incident on their mobile phones.'
Community Shock and Increased Patrols
A local parent described the annual block party as always problematic: 'This block party happens once a year, and there's always a problem. I have a young son, and I'm scared every time he leaves the house.' DCI Massink added: 'Our thoughts remain with the victim and his family. Increased police patrols are in place in the area. If you have any questions or concerns, speak with our officers.'
Appeal for Information
Police urge anyone with footage or information to come forward. DCI Massink appealed: 'I would ask those with videos not to post them on social media out of respect for the bereaved family.' Anyone with information should call police on 101 quoting CAD 6692/25May or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
