Seven people were injured on Saturday, two of them seriously, after a car plowed into a group of pedestrians in the northern Italian city of Modena, according to local authorities.
The driver, a man in his 30s, has been arrested by police. He is also alleged to have attempted to stab a passerby who tried to intervene during the incident, which occurred on a road in the city center.
Italian press reports indicate that the car crashed into a shop window after hitting the pedestrians. The vehicle came to a stop only after colliding with the storefront.
Emergency services responded quickly to the scene, and the injured were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment. The two most seriously injured individuals are receiving intensive care, though their conditions have not been disclosed.
Authorities have not yet released the motive behind the attack, but investigations are ongoing. The area around the incident was cordoned off as police collected evidence and interviewed witnesses.
This incident has shocked the local community in Modena, a city known for its rich cultural heritage and automotive industry. Further updates are expected as the investigation progresses.
