Police have arrested a man on suspicion of attempted murder after five people were hit by a car in Arnold town centre, Nottinghamshire. The incident occurred shortly before 1:10 am on Saturday, leaving one man with life-threatening injuries who remains critically ill in hospital. Four other men sustained less serious injuries.
Details of the Incident
Nottinghamshire police believe a red Vauxhall Astra was driven at a group of people following an altercation in the town centre a short time earlier. The driver abandoned the car and fled the scene on foot. A 40-year-old man was later detained and remains in custody.
Authorities have confirmed that counter-terrorism officers are not involved in the investigation, and there is no indication of any ongoing threat to the wider public.

Detective Chief Inspector Ruby Burrow, leading the investigation, stated: "We have shared this important update with the family of the seriously injured man and they are being supported by specialist officers. We would ask that people do not speculate about the circumstances around the incident and respect the privacy of those involved. Our investigation remains ongoing and we are keeping an open mind while these extensive inquiries continue."
Police are urging anyone who witnessed the incident or has dashcam, CCTV, doorbell, or mobile phone footage to come forward. Information can be provided directly to the police or anonymously through the charity Crimestoppers.
