Deputy US Marshal Drew Hanson was killed in the line of duty on Monday while serving an arrest warrant in Alexandria, Louisiana, according to the US Justice Department. The suspect, Clarence Frazier Jr, 48, has been charged with murder and could face the death penalty if convicted.

Hanson was part of a joint law enforcement operation to apprehend Frazier, who had failed to appear at his trial on a sexual battery charge. Authorities obtained a search warrant for Frazier's home and identified themselves upon arrival. After forcing entry, they found Frazier barricaded in his bedroom, where he allegedly opened fire, striking Hanson mortally.
Frazier was arrested following a standoff and was injured during the incident. He was taken to a hospital for treatment before being charged.
