Daniel Kinahan, the alleged leader of the Kinahan organized crime group, was extradited from the United Arab Emirates to Ireland on an Irish government jet on August 9, 2026. The 40-something boxing promoter, who had been living in Dubai, was arrested on an Irish warrant and flown back to face charges of directing an organized crime group.
Extradition Details
The Irish government jet departed the UAE shortly after 10am local time, carrying Kinahan, who was apprehended following a formal request by Irish authorities. The extradition was approved by the Dubai Court of Cassation, in line with the extradition treaty between Ireland and the UAE.
Irish Minister for Justice Jim O’Callaghan and UAE Minister of Justice Abdullah bin Sultan bin Awad Al Nuaimi jointly confirmed the extradition. They described Kinahan as “one of the most high-profile individuals sought for prosecution in connection with transnational organised crime.”

In a joint statement, the ministers said the decision “sends a clear message that suspected perpetrators of serious and organised crime will find no safe haven from justice, reaffirming the shared determination of both countries to ensure that such individuals are brought before the courts.” They added that it “reflects the steadfast commitment of both countries to the rule of law and reinforces international judicial co-operation.”
O’Callaghan expressed Ireland’s “deep appreciation for the support of the United Arab Emirates in handling the extradition request,” and commended the “professionalism, efficiency and diligence demonstrated by the UAE judicial authorities throughout the extradition proceedings.” He added, “This decision is another landmark of judicial co-operation between the two countries and reflects the strength of our partnership to address transnational organised crime.”
Kinahan's Background
Kinahan is accused of being a leading figure in the Kinahan cartel, involved in international drug trafficking and firearm offences. The gang has been embroiled in a violent feud with the rival Hutch gang since 2015, which has resulted in numerous killings. An attempt was made on Kinahan’s life in 2016, and he married in 2017 at the luxury Burj Al Arab hotel in Dubai.
