Large-Scale Search Operation Launched
A major multi-agency search is currently underway in the English Channel after a man fell overboard from a yacht near the coast of Brighton. The incident was reported on the morning of November 30, 2025, triggering an immediate emergency response.
Emergency Services Scramble to Scene
The alarm was raised after a woman on the catamaran contacted emergency services. The vessel was reported to be in the vicinity of the Rampion wind farm. In response, RNLI lifeboats were dispatched from both Newhaven and Shoreham to begin the search for the missing man.
They are being assisted by a significant number of resources, including:
- An HM Coastguard rescue helicopter
- A Coastguard fixed-wing aircraft
- Two other boats that were in the immediate area
While the intensive search continues, the catamaran from which the man fell is being towed to shore.
Ongoing Incident with Full Resources Deployed
A spokesperson for the RNLI confirmed the details, stating: ‘At 10.19am this morning, HM Coastguard received reports of a person overboard from a vessel off Newhaven. RNLI lifeboats from Shoreham and Newhaven have been sent to search, along with an HM Coastguard rescue helicopter, a Coastguard fixed wing aircraft and two nearby vessels in the vicinity. The incident is ongoing.’
The rescue operation remains active, with all available assets focused on locating the individual in the water off the Sussex coast.
