New South Wales police have confirmed that one child has died and three other people are in critical condition following a stabbing incident in the Blue Mountains on Sunday.
Emergency services were called to Waratah Road in Valley Heights after receiving reports of three children and a woman with stab wounds inside a vehicle. According to police, several members of the public provided first aid before officers from the Blue Mountains Police Area Command arrived at the scene.
Police stated that one child was found deceased inside the vehicle. The two other children, believed to be under five years old, and a woman believed to be in her 40s, were treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics at the scene. All three were subsequently taken to Westmead Hospital, where they are listed in critical condition.
Crime scene established on Waratah Road
A crime scene has been established at the location. In an official statement, police said, “A crime scene has been established, and police are not looking for any other people at this time.” This suggests that the incident is contained and there is no ongoing threat to the public.
The police statement also noted, “Officers from Blue Mountains Police Area Command have been informed that several members of the public performed first aid on the woman and three children whilst contacting Triple Zero.”
Police appeal for information and footage
Authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident, or anyone who has mobile phone or dashcam footage from the area, to come forward and contact Crime Stoppers. The investigation is ongoing, and police are working to establish the circumstances surrounding the attack.
The incident has prompted a significant emergency response in the Blue Mountains community, and the hospital condition of the three survivors remains critical as they receive medical treatment.
