Man charged with murder of Raymond Hardinges in Bermondsey

Sean Riordan, a 60-year-old man, has been charged with murder following the death of Raymond Hardinges, 53, in Bermondsey. The charge comes after Hardinges was stabbed in Lucey Way on August 2 and died in hospital on August 29.

Incident and Arrest

Emergency services were called to Lucey Way at approximately 12:45am on August 2 following reports of an altercation at an address. Hardinges was taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service paramedics, where he succumbed to his injuries nearly a month later.

Riordan, also of Lucey Way, was arrested at the property and initially charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent. He appeared at Croydon Magistrates' Court on August 3 and was granted bail, but was later detained following an alleged breach of his bail conditions and remanded in custody.

Murder Charge and Court Appearance

The Metropolitan Police confirmed in an update that Riordan has since been charged with murder. He is due to appear at Croydon Magistrates' Court today, October 9, 2026, to face the charge.

Family Tribute

Paying tribute, Hardinges' family released a statement: "No family should ever have to experience the pain of losing a loved one in such tragic circumstances. We ask that Raymond is remembered for the bubbly, caring person he was and for the love, memories, and moments he shared with those closest to him."

The family added: "We will carry Raymond in our hearts every day. He will never be forgotten, and he will always be loved. Our family's hearts are truly broken by this unimaginable loss and ask that our privacy is respected as we try to come to terms with what has happened."

The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and Riordan remains in custody pending his court appearance today.
