A rogue leopard burst into a small liquor store in Todaraisingh town, Rajasthan, India, on Sunday morning, attacking two men inside. The big cat had earlier injured a local forest ranger volunteer before entering the shop.
Leopard's rampage through town
The incident began at around 8:45am on July 19, when the leopard was spotted in bushes near Todaraisingh. A forest ranger volunteer investigating the reports was attacked by the animal. The leopard then moved into the town and entered a liquor store, lunging at the two men inside.
Terrifying footage captured the attack. Salesman Sanjay Gurjar, 25, managed to wrestle free from the leopard's claws and dive over a table to escape. The leopard then wandered around the store before taking refuge under a table, nearly knocking over a shelf of bottles.
Victims and rescue operation
Gurjar reportedly locked the leopard inside the shop, preventing further injuries. A rescue team arrived at around 2pm and launched an operation to safely capture the animal. All three attack victims were taken to hospital. The ranger volunteer was treated and discharged, while the two shop workers were transferred to another facility for further treatment.
The attack comes days after an elderly man was killed in his sleep by a leopard in Uttar Pradesh, India, about 400 miles away. Ram Yadav, 88, was asleep on his veranda when the leopard attacked him, dragging him toward the woods. His family scared off the leopard and called emergency services, but Yadav was pronounced dead on arrival at hospital due to severe neck injuries.
