The LDN COP, an alternative climate conference organized by this newspaper, will take place on Thursday, November 28, at the Plaza, formerly the Odeon, in Parkway, Camden Town. The event, now in its third year, is free to attend and will transform an old cinema into a festival of discussion, debate, and creativity about the climate crisis.
The conference serves as a local counterpart to international climate negotiations, which organizers say are often mired in stalemates and indecision or shaped by lobbyists for major polluting fossil fuel companies. Instead, the LDN COP will offer a chance to talk, listen, watch, and learn about how climate interacts with housing, the cost of living, the right to protest, and the nature around us.
Speakers and Performers at LDN COP
The event will feature veteran activist Roger Hallam, housing campaigner Kwajo Tweneboa, musician and artist Louis VI, and air quality campaigner Rosamund Kissi-Debra, among many others. The lineup covers a range of perspectives on climate action and its intersection with social issues.
Attendees will also have the opportunity to watch two documentaries. The first, the People’s Emergency Briefing, will be followed by a participatory discussion facilitated by Joanna Macrae OBE. The second, Colossal Wreck by Josh Appignanesi, takes viewers inside the real COP28 in Dubai, exploring whether large, slick conferences can have real impact or are merely full of false promises.
Eco Market and Activities
Alongside the talks and screenings, the LDN COP will host an eco market where visitors can browse second-hand items, print their own t-shirts, and write letters to the future. These activities aim to engage attendees in hands-on climate action.
Tickets for the LDN COP are available on Eventbrite, and the event is free to attend. The venue, the Plaza, is located in Parkway, Camden Town, and was formerly the Odeon cinema.
The conference underscores the role of local initiatives in addressing global climate challenges, offering a space for community dialogue and creative expression. By combining expert insights, film, and interactive activities, the LDN COP seeks to make climate issues accessible and actionable for all attendees.
