The LDN COP, a free climate conference hosted by this newspaper, will take place on Thursday, November 28, at the Plaza (formerly the Odeon) in Parkway, Camden Town. Now in its third year, the event aims to provide a local alternative to international climate negotiations, which the organisers say are often stalled by indecision or shaped by lobbyists for major polluting fossil fuel companies.
The day will transform an old cinema into a festival of discussion, debate, and creativity focused on the climate crisis. Attendees will have the opportunity to talk, listen, watch, and learn about how climate change intersects with housing, the cost of living, the right to protest, and the natural environment.
Speakers and Documentaries Highlight the Agenda
The lineup includes veteran activist Roger Hallam, housing campaigner Kwajo Tweneboa, musician and artist Louis VI, and air quality campaigner Rosamund Kissi-Debra, among others. The conference will also feature a screening of the People’s Emergency Briefing documentary, followed by a participatory discussion facilitated by Joanna Macrae OBE.
Another screening will present Josh Appignanesi’s documentary Colossal Wreck, which offers an inside look at the real COP28 in Dubai three years ago. The film questions whether such large, polished conferences can deliver real impact or are merely filled with false promises.
Eco Market and Free Attendance
In addition to the talks and films, the event will include an eco market where visitors can browse second-hand items, print their own t-shirts, and write letters to the future. Tickets are available for free on Eventbrite, and the event is open to all.
