Sir David Attenborough Honored with New Nature Trail in Richmond Park
Attenborough Trail Opens in Richmond Park for 100th Birthday

A new nature trail in southwest London has been named after Sir David Attenborough to celebrate his 100th birthday. The legendary natural historian, who turned 100 on May 8, 2026, has been honored by the Holly Lodge Centre, an education charity based in Richmond Park. The newly unveiled Attenborough Trail is designed to bring young people closer to the park's wildlife and heritage.

Attenborough Trail Unveiled

The Holly Lodge Centre, which focuses on outdoor learning, has renamed its nature trail The Attenborough Trail. The path is a key part of the centre's educational programme, aiming to inspire children to observe and value nature. James Middlehurst, chair of the board of trustees, stated: 'Sir David has inspired generations of children to learn to look closely, to ask questions and to value nature. Naming our nature trail in his honour feels entirely fitting. Every child who walks the Attenborough Trail is following in the footsteps of curiosity and care for the natural world that Sir David has championed throughout his life.'

Sir David Attenborough, who has described Richmond as his favourite place in the world, is a patron of the Holly Lodge Centre. He supports its mission to bring young people, especially those with special educational needs and disabilities, closer to nature. In addition to the trail, the centre has created the Centenary Glade as a birthday gift—a new woodland space planted by volunteers.
