Beulah Hill burst water main: flooding, outages after pipe bursts
Beulah Hill burst main: flooding and outages continue

A burst water main on Beulah Hill has caused flooding, traffic disruption, and left some residents without water, with Thames Water crews working through the night to isolate the damaged section.

The incident began on October 26, near the junction with Downsview Road, and customers in SE19 and the surrounding area reported low water pressure or a loss of supply. Thames Water said the burst caused flooding and required lane restrictions so repair work could be carried out safely.

Repairs complicated by underground mains

Specialist repair crews initially attended later that day, and by early afternoon the leak had been brought under control, although a small number of properties remained without water. Crews then worked to return supplies to most affected homes before digging down to the damaged pipework, with repairs expected that evening.

However, Thames Water later said the situation was proving complicated because of the location of the work and the number of water mains underground. Teams continued working overnight to identify the affected pipe, carrying out investigations, network tests, and valve adjustments.

Source of burst confirmed

In an update at 7.40am on October 27, Thames Water confirmed the source of the burst had been found and the affected section had been safely isolated. The company said: “Following these investigations, we have now confirmed the source of the burst and are progressing plans to complete the repair.”

Thames Water added: “Customers may notice an increased presence of our teams and vehicles in the area while this work continues. We are working as quickly as possible to minimise disruption and restore the network to normal operation.”

Thames Water thanked residents for their patience and said a further update would be provided by 11am.
