London Luton Airport (LLA) has launched a month-long initiative allowing passengers to travel for free on selected bus services throughout August 2026. The Fly and Ride scheme, running until August 31, lets travellers simply show a valid printed or digital boarding pass for a flight departing from LLA to the bus driver, eliminating the need to pay for certain Arriva and Stagecoach routes.
Eligible Routes and Key Details
The offer covers Arriva routes A, Z, 101, X1, X2, X3, and X4, as well as Stagecoach's MK1 service. These routes connect the airport with destinations including Luton, Dunstable, Houghton Regis, Stevenage, Bedford, and Milton Keynes. However, not all buses to the airport are included; National Express and Greenline services remain chargeable, and trains and the Luton DART are excluded.
Andrea Platania, travel expert at Transfeero, emphasized the importance of checking the specific route: “The important detail is that the boarding pass replaces the bus ticket only on participating services. Passengers should check both the operator and route number rather than assuming every vehicle displaying London Luton Airport as its destination will be free. Several different buses and coaches may leave from the same station, and boarding the wrong one could still mean paying the normal fare.”
How to Use the Offer
Passengers can use either a printed boarding pass or a digital version stored on their phone. For return journeys, travellers should keep the pass accessible, as it may disappear from the most obvious section of an airline's app once the flight has departed. Return trips must also be completed before August 31; after that date, the usual fare applies.
Platania advised: “Most people stop thinking about their boarding pass the moment they step onto the aircraft, but under this scheme it can remain valuable after the flight. Take a screenshot before travelling and make sure the passenger name, airport and flight details are visible. Saving it in a digital wallet or carrying a printed copy will also prevent a flat battery, poor signal or archived airline booking from turning a free journey into a paid one.”
Journey Times and Alternatives
The Stagecoach MK1 service runs up to every 60 minutes and takes approximately 70 minutes between Milton Keynes Rail Station and London Luton Airport. Passengers should account for this travel time when planning their journey.
The free bus offer should not be confused with rail travel to Luton Airport Parkway or the Luton DART connection. Train passengers still need an appropriate rail ticket, although tickets issued to “Luton Airport” rather than “Luton Airport Parkway” may already include the DART transfer.
Airport's Statement and Benefits
According to the airport, the offer can help people from across the area get free travel. A statement said: "Holidaymakers across Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire using London Luton Airport this August are being encouraged to leave the car at home and hop on a free bus instead."
The initiative complements the Department for Transport's free summer bus travel scheme for children aged 5 to 15 in England, meaning many families can travel to the airport at no cost during August. With some services operating 24 hours a day and buses running as frequently as every seven minutes in Luton, passengers can be dropped off directly outside the terminal door.

- Arriva: 101 (Stevenage via Hitchin), X1 (Milton Keynes via Bletchley and Dunstable), X2 and X3 (Milton Keynes via Bletchley, Stoke Hammond, Leighton Buzzard and Dunstable), X4 (Aylesbury via Wing, Leighton Buzzard, Stanbridge, Tilsworth and Dunstable), and A and Z (Houghton Regis and Dunstable).
- Stagecoach: MK1 (Bedford and Milton Keynes, also passing through Elstow, Wixams, Clophill, Silsoe and Barton-Le-Clay).

Additional Rail Offer
Families travelling to LLA by train can also benefit from a bargain, with East Midlands Rail (EMR) offering £20 family tickets for journeys between London St Pancras and LLA on the Luton Airport Express (LEX). Valid for two adults and up to four children, the ticket also includes use of the Luton DART to take passengers right outside the terminal front.
