Lewisham Festive Bin Collection Dates 2025: Key Changes for Christmas & New Year
Lewisham Christmas bin collection changes 2025

Residents in the London Borough of Lewisham are being advised of important changes to their bin collection schedules over the upcoming Christmas and New Year period. The council has released a revised timetable to account for the public holidays, ensuring households can manage their waste effectively during the festive break.

Revised Collection Dates for Christmas 2025

The alterations to the normal service will begin from Monday, 22 December. It is crucial for residents to note the specific changes to avoid missed collections. There will be no changes for collections scheduled on Monday 22 December or Tuesday 23 December; these will proceed as normal.

For those whose usual collection day falls on Christmas Day, Thursday 25 December, the pickup will be delayed and will now take place on Saturday 27 December. Similarly, collections due on Boxing Day, Friday 26 December, will be moved to Sunday 28 December.

The service returns to its standard pattern for collections on Monday 29 December and Tuesday 30 December, with no adjustments needed.

New Year's Day Collection Adjustments

The schedule changes resume for the New Year. If your bins are normally emptied on New Year's Day, Thursday 1 January 2025, your collection will instead occur on Friday 2 January.

Consequently, residents with a regular Friday collection on 2 January will have their waste collected on Saturday 3 January. The council has confirmed that all collections will revert to the standard weekly timetable from Monday 5 January 2025.

How to Recycle Your Christmas Tree

Once the festivities conclude, Lewisham Council has provided clear guidance on disposing of Christmas trees sustainably. Real trees can be recycled through the garden waste service.

Residents must ensure the tree is cut into pieces no larger than 10cm thick and 50cm long before placing it in the garden waste bin. Alternatively, real trees can be taken to designated collection points across the borough.

For artificial trees, the council recommends donating usable ones to a charity shop or giving them away. Any broken artificial trees should be taken to the Landmann Way Reuse and Recycling Centre in New Cross for proper disposal.

By staying informed of these temporary changes, Lewisham households can help maintain local cleanliness and support the borough's recycling efforts throughout the holiday season.
