London Braces for Weekend Washout: 50mm Rain & Strong Winds
Met Office issues London heavy rain warning

The Met Office has placed London under a yellow weather warning, with a prolonged period of heavy rain and strong winds expected to hit the capital this weekend.

When and Where the Storm Will Hit

The 18-hour yellow warning is scheduled to be in effect from 6am on Saturday, November 29, until midnight the same day. Weather experts indicate that rain clouds will initially form over South West England on Friday night before moving across the country and reaching the North Sea by Monday morning.

While many parts of England and Wales are likely to see between 20-30mm of rainfall, the Met Office has warned that some of the worst-affected areas, including parts of London, could experience as much as 50mm of rain.

Potential Travel Chaos and Flooding Risk

The deluge, combined with gusty winds, is expected to cause significant disruption. Commuters have been advised that bus and rail services could be affected, with journey times taking considerably longer.

There is also a small chance of flooding in some localised areas, according to the official forecast. Residents are urged to stay updated on the latest travel information and weather bulletins.

An Unsettled Outlook for London

Steven Keates, Deputy Chief Meteorologist at the Met Office, provided further insight, stating: “Confidence is high that the weekend will be unsettled, but there remains some uncertainty over the exact track of the low-pressure system. Small shifts in its path could significantly affect where the heaviest rain and strongest winds occur.”

He confirmed that the Met Office is closely monitoring the situation and will issue updates as the forecast becomes clearer.

The turbulent weather is set to continue into the following week, with temperatures fluctuating sharply. While Friday, November 28, will be relatively mild with highs of 13C and sunny spells, Saturday will see the mercury drop to 12C alongside the heavy rain. Sunday will be chillier at 8C, but will bring a return of sunshine.

The BBC London forecast for the first part of December suggests a pattern of persistent light rain showers and cool temperatures hovering around 10-12C, indicating that Londoners will need their umbrellas close at hand for the foreseeable future.
